Now is the time for spring cleanings, preparing your system for the hot summer ahead. What are you going to get? A cleaning? An inspection? A system evaluation? There are a lot of different skill levels and prices. I spend about an hour to an hour and a half to do a cleaning and checkup.
Are you getting what you pay for in Air Conditioning and Heating? There are so many variables and unfortunately, you the customer, have to be knowledgeable in yet another field to get the best value.
Somehow, you will need to separate the advertising from the facts.
Now is the time for spring cleanings, preparing your system for the hot summer ahead. What are you going to get? A cleaning? An inspection? A system evaluation? There are a lot of different skill levels and prices. I spend about an hour to an hour and a half to do a cleaning and checkup.
I have been to jobs and seen a variety of issues that should have been identified and fixed at previous visits. I believe these problems were not addressed due to a lack of knowledge and/or a lack of time available to address the issues. Some of the issues that I have found:
Air leaks in the equipment housing. Cold air is blowing into the attic that should be going into your home. You paid to cool the air, why waste it.
Rusted drain pan. There should never be water in a drain pan. The cause needs to be found and corrected. If not, there may be a damaged ceiling in your future.
Coils not cleaned. Some systems were installed so the coil is difficult to get at. Many times in this case, the cleaning is not done.
Improper refrigerant charge. Verifying a proper charge requires charts, tools, and time to check.
